Event Date:
October 16, 2024 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced its commitment to developing a Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate severe injuries and fatalities on local roadways. This data-driven and comprehensive strategy focuses on creating a safer, more sustainable, and livable community for all roadway users, including those who walk, bike, drive, or use other modes of transportation.

The public is invited to participate in the process and attend a community workshop to discuss and provide input on developing the Vision Zero Action Plan. This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16. To join the virtual meeting go to www.cityofslt.us/VisionZeroActionPlan and click on the Zoom link.

Vision Zero recognizes that traffic deaths and serious injuries are preventable. By addressing all aspects of transportation safety, the City’s approach integrates five essential Safe System elements that work together to provide layers of protection for road users:

Safe Road Users: Prioritizing safety for everyone on the road—pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, transit riders, and more.

Safe Vehicles: Ensuring vehicles are designed and regulated to minimize the occurrence and severity of collisions.

Safe Speeds: Promoting safe driving speeds to reduce impact forces, improve driver reaction times, and enhance visibility.

Safe Roads: Designing roadways to accommodate human error and reduce the chances of severe injury.

Post-Crash Care: Employing forensic analysis, effective traffic incident management, and anonymized emergency room data to identify crash trends and enhance response strategies.

Community members are also invited to participate in the online Vision Zero survey to provide input on the Vision Zero Action Plan. To take the survey, visit www.cityofslt.us/VisionZeroSurvey.
