100% containment line around 76,788 acre Mosquito Fire

PLACER/EL DORADO Counties, Calif. - Firefighters have succeeded against the last two stubborn areas of the Mosquito Fire perimeter and there is now a 100 percent containment line around the fire.

Isolated smokes may be visible well within the fire perimeter, but pose no threat to containment, according to the fire command team. Fire suppression repair is nearing completion.

To date, fire crews have completed 221 miles of dozer line repair, 34 miles of handline repair, and 100 miles of road repair. 761 personnel remain on the fire.

Fifty-one miles of hazard tree abatement continues. Eight miles have been completed and thirteen miles are in progress. Heavy equipment is expected to be in the area for at least two more weeks.

Sunday will be mostly sunny, and temperatures will remain cool. Humidity levels will drop, with afternoon minimums down to around 20 percent. Winds will be Northeast at 6 to 12 mph with gusts to 20 to 25 mph. Fire personnel will continue to patrol the fire from both ground and air.

Forest Closure Orders remain in effect. Many hazards still exist within the fire area including fire-weakened trees, rolling materials and poor road conditions. Hazard tree removal continues along many of the roads.
