Wood fires are allowed at Campground by the Lake
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the arrival of a major dose of precipitation and 100 percent containment of the Caldor Fire, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has lifted the burn ban that had been in place for most of the summer.
In the city limits, this means:
Charcoal and pellet BBQs are allowed
Wood fires are allowed at Campground by the Lake
Open wood fires are never allowed in the city at any time except at the Campground by the Lake. This includes outside fire pits.
On Red Flag Days, no outdoor cooking of any kind is ever allowed.
Please dispose of charcoal ashes properly. Ash cans are available for free at any South Lake Tahoe fire station.
At this time there are no updates to the Lake Valley or Tahoe Douglas seasonal fire bans.
As a result of the precipitation already received, the Eldorado National Forest has lifted the restrictions on campfires that were put in place earlier this year due to dry conditions. Visitors in possession of a valid California campfire permit may once again have campfires according to the terms of their permit and other forest regulations. The Caldor Fire Closure remains in effect to ensure public safety due to ongoing hazards within the Caldor Fire area.
Campfire permits are required for all types of campfires in the Eldorado National Forest, including gas stoves, and are available online at www.preventwildfiresca.org.
Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, which manages the Lake Tahoe campgrounds and backcountry, still has a fire ban and most areas are beginning their seasonal closure.
