PG&E customers in El Dorado County to have choice on electric company

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe, Meyers and Tahoma all have Liberty Utilities as their power company, but residents in all portions of El Dorado County that are served by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) will soon have a choice.

Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer) will hold a community meeting for El
Dorado County to present information about Pioneer and to answer questions on November 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held both in-person and via Zoom. The in-person meeting will be at El Dorado County Government Center, 330 Fair Lane, in Placerville, in the Board of Supervisors Chambers. Options for participating in the meeting remotely are below.

Pioneer is a community-owned, not-for-profit agency serving unincorporated Placer and El Dorado Counties, and the incorporated areas of Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Loomis, Placerville, and Rocklin. Pioneer currently serves more than 93,300 residential and commercial accounts and will begin serving the 68,000 accounts in unincorporated El Dorado County and Placerville in January 2022.

Pioneer was formed to provide electric generation at stable rates while offering programs that deliver economic and workforce benefits for the local
community. They also have goals of 100 percent renewable energy and have been Green 100 from their origin.

PG&E will still own the poles and lines and all customers will still be subject to power shut-offs due to wind events. Alexia Retallack of Pioneer said they can still be a strong advocate for better control of the grid and hardening efforts. They can't stop outages, she said, but they can address and press for customers.
