Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe extended until Tuesday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service has extended the Red Flag Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin. It is now in affect until noon on Tuesday, October 27.

Expect northeast winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph. Higher gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible along mid-slopes and wind prone areas tonight and Monday with gusts of 70+ mph along the Sierra Crest.

With a humidity of 15-25 percent during the evening hours, the fire danger remains high as the system moves through.

There is also a Lake Wind Advisory until Tuesday at noon. Besides the mentioned wind, waves are expected 2 to 4 feet and locally up to 5 feet through Monday morning, then 2 to 3 feet Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. Highest waves from mid lake to west shores.

Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

The two-day forecast:

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 50. Breezy, with an east wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 62. East wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 24. East wind around 5 mph.
