Lake Wind Advisory and chance of rain and snow for Greater Lake Tahoe area

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area for Sunday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The advisory is for South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Glenbrook, Incline Village, Stateline, Markleeville, and Tahoe City.

Expect southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Waves could be 2 to 4 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

The weather will be changing over the next two days. During the day Sunday, NWS Reno calls for a 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. with a snow level of 8200 feet, rising to 9100 feet. The high temperature will be near 61. Rain showers are likely before 2 a.m. Monday, then making way for snow though still at elevations above lake level. Snow level is 8500 feet lowering to 7400 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 25. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

NWS Reno says Monday will see a chance of rain and snow showers before 11 a.m., then rain showers between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then snow showers after 2 p.m. High near 47. West wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible during the day with less than a half inch during the night, mainly before 11 p.m. The low will be around 19. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
