Winter Weather Advisory in place for Lake Tahoe Friday - Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area from 5 pm. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday.

NWS Reno said to expect snow accumulations up to 4 inches below 7000 feet with an inch or so at Lake Level, and 4 and 8 inches above 7000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph over Sierra ridges.

IMPACTS - Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS - Gusty winds and waves up to 3 feet may lead to hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe.

The NWS Reno weekend forecast for South Lake Tahoe:

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night - Snow, mainly after 11 pm. Low around 28. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. A new snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Saturday - Snow before 11 am, then a chance of rain. High near 46. West wind around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Saturday Night - Snow likely, mainly before 11 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 19. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Sunday - A 20 percent chance of snow before 11 am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Light north wind becoming northeast 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
