Winter Storm Watch up again for Lake Tahoe: 1-3 ft possible at lake level, 2-4 ft above 7000 feet

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With lake-effect snow surprising many Thursday morning, the storm passed the Lake Tahoe Basin leaving about 8" of snow at lake level over two days. But, don't put away that shovel!

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Lake Tahoe Basin from noon on Sunday, November 6 until Wednesday, November 9 at 4 a.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno says heavy snow is possible with total snow accumulations of 1-3 feet at lake level, and 2-4 feet above 7,000 feet. It will also be windy - gusts possibly as high as 45 mph except along the ridges where wind gusts may reach 80 mph.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact commute times over mountain passes. Strong winds may damage trees and power lines.

Be prepared for whiteout conditions and subzero wind chills along the foothills and ridgelines of the Sierra.

The current forecast for Friday-Wednesday for South Lake Tahoe:

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. South wind around 5 mph.

Saturday - A 20 percent chance of showers after 11am. Snow level 6800 feet rising to 9200 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday Night - Rain showers likely before 2am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with snow showers. Snow level 8800 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday - A chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then rain showers likely. Snow level 8200 feet lowering to 7300 feet in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Breezy, with a southwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday - showers likely before 8pm, then snow showers. Low around 19. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday - Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38.

Monday Night - Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Tuesday - Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37.

Tuesday Night - Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.
