The staff, doctors and residents of the Skilled Nursing Center at Barton Hospital celebrated six of their own during a Veteran's Day ceremony Friday. This annual celebration included singing, refreshments and introduction of those six who now live at Skilled Nursing but served their country during the Vietnam War, Korea War and/or World War II.
The oldest, 95-year-old Gaston Mariolle was in WWII, followed by 94-year-old Charles Newbre, also a veteran of WWII as is Francis Duff, 90. Ray Goodenough, 88, served in both WWII and the Korean War. Veteran Richard Elder, 80 and Vietnam Veteran Gale "Gator" Parsons, 67, were also honored.
The residents and guests all had flags and waived them during singing by Davin Kangas of Cash Only Band and Jill Scharlow, and Kait Hemphill, Project Manager at the new Center for Orthopedics & Wellness.
"We like them to know we so appreciate them," said Maureen Froyum, Skilled Nursing Activity Director.
