The Wylder Hotel Hope Valley continues its speaker series on Eastern Sierra history with historian David Woodruff.
On Saturday, November 13 at 4:00 p.m. - “Into the Jaws of Hell.” Hear the perilous and heroic tale of how one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in the world, became forever known as Death Valley.
Sunday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. - “Wedding of the Waters.” In December of 1949, Father John Crowley carried out one of the grandest events to have taken place in the Eastern Sierra, in a magnificent three-day pageant. Over 50,000 people watched in amazement as a special gourd of water was moved from the highest lake in the United States, to the lowest spot in the western hemisphere by a host of characters including Hop Along Cassidy, an Indianapolis 500 winner, the 20-Mule Team Wagon and many more.
Both campfire programs are free and open to the public and will be held indoors in case of inclement weather.
