Quick Veteran's Day storm at Lake Tahoe - Lake and winter weather advisories

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a quick-moving storm forecast for Lake Tahoe on Monday, Veteran's Day. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and a Lake Wind Advisory.

The Lake Wind Advisory is for 10 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and waves 2 to 4 feet for Lake Tahoe.

The Winter Weather Advisory was issued in the Tahoe Basin above 6500 feet for Monday from noon to 10 p.m. Light snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible down to lake level along and west of Highway 89, and snow above 6500 feet with accumulations between 2 and 6 inches possible.

Additional chances for rain, snow, and wind arrive late Wednesday afternoon and go through the weekend with temperatures falling. Nothing is screaming significant at this point, but periods of travel difficulties are certainly on the table, said NWS Reno.

The South Lake Tahoe forecast for the week from NWS Reno:

Veterans Day - Rain showers after 10 am, mixing with snow after 4 pm. High near 49. Breezy, with a south wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Monday Night - Snow showers, mainly before 10 pm. Low around 17. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 48. Calm wind.

Tuesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday - A 30 percent chance of showers after 10 am. Snow level rising to 7100 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 51. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday Night - A chance of rain and snow showers before 1 am, then a chance of snow showers. Snow level 6900 feet lowering to 6400 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 25. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Thursday - A chance of snow showers before 10 am, then rain showers likely. Snow level rising to 6700 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 47.

Thursday Night - Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all snow after 7 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 19.

Friday - Snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38.
