Wind, rain and chance of snow in the Lake Tahoe forecast

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a windy start to the week, and cooler weather returns by Tuesday with another system expected to roll into the Sierra Thursday, bringing increased chances for stronger winds and precipitation.

There is a Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Tahoe from 9:00 a.m. to midnight Monday. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected with waves 1 to 3 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

The weekly forecast for South Lake Tahoe from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Monday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. South wind around 10 mph.

Tuesday - Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 54. West wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. East wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. East wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Thursday - A slight chance of rain after 4pm. Snow level 6900 feet rising to 7800 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

Thursday Night - A chance of rain before 4am, then a chance of rain and snow. Snow level 7600 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Friday - A slight chance of rain and snow before 10am, then a slight chance of rain. Snow level 7000 feet. Mostly sunny, with a high near 47.
