Winter Weather Advisory in place for upper elevations around Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for elevations above 6,500 ft from 4 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.

Snow is expected above 6500 feet with total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, up to 8 inches above 7000 feet, and up to 1 to 2 feet above 8000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph, with ridge top gusts up to 95 mph.

The advisory is in place from 4 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Strong winds could cause tree damage and blowing snow.

Plan on hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe with wave heights of 2 to 4 feet. Localized areas of blowing snow may also reduce visibility to near zero at times.

For South Lake Tahoe:

Tonight - Rain before 4 am, then a chance of rain and snow. The snow level is 7700 feet. Low around 29. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Saturday - A chance of rain and snow before 7 am, then rain. Snow level 7600 feet. High near 46. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Saturday Night - Rain before 1 am, then snow. Snow level 7500 feet lowering to 6300 feet after midnight. Low around 20. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

Sunday - Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 42. West wind around 5 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 16. East wind around 10 mph.
