LTCC Girls' Soccer heads to Sierra College for 3rd round playoff game

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Women's Soccer team has dominated the standings all season long, with several weeks sitting at the top of the CCCAA standings in the Golden Valley Conference (California Community College Athletic Association).

With their 10-0 league and 15-5-2 overall records, the LTCC Coyotes were able to sit out the first round of playoffs and were scheduled to host the 11th-seed Canada College (15-4) of Redwood City this past Saturday in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow had been on the field during the most recent storm, and low temperatures weren't allowing any snow or ice to melt off. Coach Jeremy Evans and LTCC grounds crews worked on the field all week, getting it ready for the playoff game. Both teams practiced on it Friday night, then warmed up on it Saturday, but 14 minutes into the playoff game, Canada coaches decided the field was too slippery, according to LTCC Athletic Director Stever Berry. Due to the safety concern, the game was canceled and a free field was found at Davis Legacy Soccer Club stadium for a make-up game on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

"We may have lost home-field advantage by rescheduling this game, but our advantage at the Davis Legacy Soccer Club stadium field was always our players," said coaching staff on the team's Facebook page.

The 6th seed LTCC Coyotes prevailed and the final score was Lake Tahoe 4, Canada 0.

Goals (assists): Rylie Stackpole (Skylar Blaise); Emily Roberts (Bella Oliva), Blaise (Stackpole); Roberts (Blaise).

Highlights:
The four-goal rout of the 11th seed team from Canada College started off with Blaise to Stackpole, then Roberts scored a brace, and Blaise added a goal of her own - all by halftime.

Goalkeeper Samantha Price posted a playoff shutout and her 11th of the season.

The LTCC program improved to 9-4 in playoff games since 2016 (.692 winning percentage).

The Coyotes got the goals, then got out and drove home, and are now ready for their next round game on Tuesday, November 22. They will be at Sierra College in Rocklin for a 2 p.m. game.

With a win, LTCC would play the winner of the San Joaquin Delta vs. Consumes River matchup.

The CCCAA state championship will be held at American River College from Dec. 2-4.
