Winter Storm Warning for Lake Tahoe and region Friday-Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Lassen, Eastern Plumas, and Eastern Sierra counties. This warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Expect heavy snow during this period with snow accumulations between 1 to 2 feet above 7,000 feet with 2 to 6 inches below 7,000 feet. Lake-level could see about an inch. Ridge winds gusting as high as 95 mph.

Lake winds may gust up to 50 mph on Friday and Friday night which will cause wave heights of 3 to 5 feet.

The weekend forecast from NWS Reno for South Lake Tahoe:

Friday - Rain likely, mainly after 1 pm. Snow level 7500 feet. Increasing clouds, with a high near 51. Windy, with a southwest wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday Night - Rain and snow. The snow level is 7000 feet. Low around 27. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Saturday - Snow. High near 41. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. A new snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Saturday Night - Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Southwest wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

Sunday - A 50 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Sunday Night - Snow likely, mainly after 10 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 22. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

There will be another system heading to Lake Tahoe for Monday-Tuesday.
