Thanksgiving weekend temperatures to be in the 50s in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If a fan of ski weather, the holiday weekend is turning out to be a bit of turkey, but there is a chance of what you're looking for late Sunday into Monday. Those driving over the Sierra after the holiday should check the weather and road conditions but it looks like all will be clear through Sunday.

Temperatures will warm back up for the end of the week with a slight cooling trend for Saturday. A quick-moving storm late Sunday night through Monday will bring gusty winds and light snow showers. Additional storms are possible late next week but the forecast confidence remains low, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

The next storm system will pass through the region with increased northerly winds, colder temperatures, and some snow showers. With the breezy northerly winds and colder temperatures, Monday will feel quite chilly compared to the mild afternoons this upcoming weekend.

Sierra ridge wind gusts will be between 60-70 mph with wind gusts 20-30 mph for the valley areas. Snow potential has really dropped off the past couple of days, with a lower than a 10% chance of snow down in the valleys. The Sierra will see better chances, with a 30% chance of greater than 2 inches for the Sierra locations. Snow totals will likely be around 3 inches or less for the Sierra passes with this quick-hitting storm.

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 20. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Saturday - Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 20. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 51.

Monday - A chance of snow showers, mainly before 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
