Chance of rain and snow in week ahead in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Wednesday at 4 a.m., the storm appears to be trending warmer with snow projections cut back in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The most pronounced impacts of this storm will be felt across portions of Alpine and Mono counties on Tuesday, with elevations above 7,500 feet experiencing the greatest snowfall.

After this passed, the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend will be generally dry with sunshine and cool temperatures.

The weekly forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Monday - Snow likely before 1 pm, then rain and snow between 1 pm and 4 pm, then rain after 4 pm. High near 43. Southwest wind around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Monday Night - Rain before 10 pm, then rain and snow. Snow level 7300 feet lowering to 6600 feet after midnight. Low around 31. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Tuesday - Snow. High near 40. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

Tuesday Night - Snow likely, mainly before 10 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. The chance of precipitation is 60%. A new snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Wednesday - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 39. East wind around 5 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Wednesday Night - A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low of around 15.

Thanksgiving Day - A slight chance of snow showers before 1 pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.

Thursday Night - A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10 pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.

Friday - A chance of snow showers before 10 am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10 am and 1 pm, then a chance of rain showers after 1 pm. Snow level rises to 7000 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
