South Lake Tahoe man reports car stolen shortly after it's involved in a hit-and-run crash

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (STLPD) responded to a call for a hit-and-run collision on Ski Run Blvd. at 6:34 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers found three damaged vehicles, all of them unoccupied. Upon investigation, they found that two of the vehicles were parked when the third, a Subaru, crashed into them and then crashed into a tree. The driver of the Subaru was nowhere in sight according to SLTPD.

Shortly after the crash, a male called into SLTPD dispatch to report his Subaru was stolen. Officers arrived at his home a short distance away and were able to determine the male was intoxicated, crashed his car, and ran home to make the stolen vehicle report.

The vehicle's owner complained of a head injury and he was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital.

At this time SLTPD cannot prove the owner was behind the wheel while intoxicated though he made self-incriminating comments during his interview.

So far he is being charged with two misdemeanors, filing a false police report and hit and run.

The crash was on Ski Run Blvd near the intersection with Larch Avenue near Himalayan and Yugen restaurants.
