Windy start and snowy end to the week ahead in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a quiet holiday weekend, a few storms are on track to bring back colder temperatures, periods of windy conditions, and the
potential for snow in the Sierra and western Nevada in the week ahead.

To start things off, there is a Lake Wind Advisory for Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Winds will be from the southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected. Waves are expected of 2 to 4 feet. mall boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

A quick-hitting storm will pass through the region Monday afternoon and evening with gusty winds, colder temperatures, and chances for snow. Lake Tahoe will most likely be kept out of the snow. The highest snow potential will be for the Warner mountains, Surprise Valley, and northern Washoe County (60% chance of 2-4 inches) with lesser potential as the storm slides southward across the Interstate 80 corridor (50% chance of a dusting). Snow is anticipated after the Monday evening commute, but could bring localized slick roads overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute.

After a brief break Tuesday and Wednesday, our next system moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. At this time there is potential for rather strong winds Thursday and Thursday night. There is still variation in exactly how strong the winds will be, but better make sure those holiday decorations are secure - reindeer don`t need to fly quite yet.

This storm has trended wetter and is indicating the potential for around a foot of snow in the high Sierra, which is a strong sign in itself. The official forecast has a couple of feet of snow in the high Sierra from Wednesday night through Friday night, which has support from 60-70% of the ensemble members. Lighter snow totals are on the table for western Nevada.

There`s another winter system on track for next weekend, but huge difference on the track of the low, which means varying implications on how it may impact the region.
