Wylder Hotel Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series with two campfire programs this coming weekend, December 4 and 5.
On Saturday, December 4, it will be a living history/Chautauqua style presentation by local historian David Woodruff on Sierra Nevada legend Snowshoe Thompson. It will be held Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. The 50-minute campfire program is free and open to the public.
Then, on Sunday, December 5, Woodruff will share a 50-minute slideshow presentation, The Wedding of the Waters, at 10:00 a.m. In December of 1949, Catholic Priest Father John Crowley, carried out one of the grandest events to have taken place in the Eastern Sierra, in a magnificent three-day pageant. Over 50,000 people watched in amazement as a special gourd of water was moved from the highest lake in the United States, to the lowest spot in the western hemisphere by a host of characters including Hop Along Cassidy, an Indianapolis 500 winner, the 20-Mule Team Wagon and many more.
Both events will be held outdoors at the campfire unless there is inclement weather. In that case, they will be moved inside the resort. They are free and open to the public. Call 760 920-8061 for more information.
