Take Care Tahoe asks people to store “Take it Slow, Tahoe” signs for winter

With winter weather on the way, Take Care Tahoe is requesting that all “Take it Slow, Tahoe” yard signs be removed and stored indoors for the winter. Over 1,000 yard signs, which were distributed to the public in May, were posted in neighborhoods throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin to remind drivers to slow down for pedestrians, cyclists, and wildlife.

“This spring, we saw an overwhelming response from community members who were eager to encourage safe driving in their neighborhoods,” said Noah Shapiro, coordinator of the Take Care Tahoe initiative. “With snowy weather around the corner, we are calling on those same community members to bring their signs indoors to protect them from harsh winter conditions.”

The Take Care Tahoe team is asking residents to store their signs indoors until they can be reinstalled in the spring. All yard signs posted in high visibility locations not directly in front of a house or business should be removed as well.

To continue to encourage traffic safety in the region, Take Care Tahoe has created banners with the “Take it Slow” message. These banners will be placed around the lake in high-visibility locations, including ski resorts and busy areas in Tahoe City, Incline Village, and South Lake Tahoe.

Businesses interested in hanging up a banner should contact info@takecaretahoe.org for more information.
