SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. –The highly anticipated Festival of Winter Lights is back for its 4th year, bringing holiday magic to the South Shore community on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 in between the Lake Tahoe History Museum and South Lake Tahoe Senior Center (3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd). This beloved annual event will once again transform the area into a winter wonderland filled with festive activities, entertainment, and community spirit.
New in 2024: Gingerbread House Village
This year, guests are invited to explore the all-new Gingerbread House Village, showcasing stunning creations as part of the Lake Tahoe Gingerbread Competition, sponsored by Visit Lake Tahoe. From cozy cottages to whimsical masterpieces, each gingerbread house is a true work of art. Attendees can cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award and help celebrate the creativity of local creators.
Commemorative Glühwein Mugs
Warm up with a sip of holiday cheer in a limited-edition commemorative Glühwein mug! Only 100 mugs are available for 2024, making them a must-have keepsake for festivalgoers. Proceeds from mug sales will benefit the South Tahoe Parks Foundation, supporting community recreation and parks initiatives in South Lake Tahoe.

The Festival of Winter Lights offers activities for everyone, including:

- A special visit from the South Lake Tahoe Christmas Fire Engine

- Live entertainment featuring music, carolers, and performances
- Free hot chocolate provided by the Lake Tahoe Historical Society
Holidays in History
For over 20 years the Lake Tahoe Historical Society has held "Holidays in History" at the museum complex, and that tradition continues again this year. Tour the 1930's decorated cabin, step into the museum, also with its decorations, and enjoy free tours. The bookstore will be open during the event, a perfect place for local holiday treats! Santa will be sitting at the 1860 Toll House - what a great photo opp! Museum hours during Holidays in History will be the same as the festival, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Event Parking & Transportation
Parking will be available at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation & Swim Complex, but spaces are limited. To make your visit easier, attendees are encouraged to carpool or take advantage of public transportation options like LakeLink, South Lake Tahoe’s free micro-transit service.
