Incoming storm gets Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday-Thursday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area to be in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday for areas above 6,000 feet.
Snow is expected above 6000 feet. Snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, except 1-2 feet above 8000 feet. Ridge winds gusting as high as 100 mph.

Today - Rain before 4 pm, then rain and snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Snow level 7200 feet. High near 51. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tonight - Rain and snow showers, becoming all snow after 7 pm, then gradually ending. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 19. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Thursday - Snow likely, mainly after 1 pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 39. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Thursday NightSnow likely, mainly before 10 pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 13. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.
Strong winds and heavy snow rates may produce localized whiteout conditions. Plan on hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe with wave heights 2 to 4 feet.
