The following counts are based on El Dorado County Public Health COVID-19 case investigation findings:
Currently, El Dorado County Public Health prioritizes investigating cases less than 18 years of age, 65 years of age, and older and cases living or working in vulnerable settings (example: working in healthcare or living in an assisted living community). El Dorado County Public Health does not investigate every case of COVID-19. For this reason, El Dorado County Public Health is not able to confirm that a hospitalization history does or does not exist for every case.
These counts are grouped by episode date and only cases with a documented hospitalization history (yes, hospitalized or no, not hospitalized) are included in these counts. The running total provided below will be updated on the last Thursday of every month.
149 (77%) of the 193 documented hospitalizations that occurred in cases with episode dates between May 1, 2021 and November 24, 2021 were in individuals who were not fully vaccinated.
Deaths by Vaccination Status
According to Statewide data from October 24, 2021 to October 30, 2021, unvaccinated people were 15.8 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than fully vaccinated people.
15 out of the 169 confirmed COVID-19 deaths occurred in fully vaccinated individuals.
42 (74%) of the 57 COVID-19 confirmed deaths that have occurred and been confirmed between May 1, 2021 and the update on November 24, 2021 have occurred in individuals who were not fully vaccinated.
A death in a fully vaccinated individual is defined as a confirmed COVID-19 death that occurred in an individual who was considered to be a post-vaccination case at the time of death. A post-vaccination case is defined as a case that has received a positive molecular (eg. PCR) test for SARS-CoV-2 and whose episode date occurs 14 or more days after the date they completed their full one-dose or two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series.
COVID-related deaths are counted as soon as they are reported to and confirmed by El Dorado County Public Health. Because determining whether a death occurred in a fully vaccinated person takes time to verify and deaths in fully vaccinated people occur relatively rarely, these cases will be carefully verified then reported in batches (aggregated) rather than separately. This is to avoid the risk of inadvertently releasing identifiable personal health information. For the time being, this count will be updated approximately monthly, on the last Thursday of every month.
