Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra presents check to Mt. Tallac High School

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sandy Williams was a Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) member and spent countless hours volunteering in the South Lake Tahoe community, much of that time spent helping at Mt. Tallac High School.

Upon her passing in 2019, Sandy's husband Keith donated all of his art to the SITS club to be used to raise funds for use at Mt. Tallac, the center of Sandy's heart and passion.

An art auction was planned, but with COVID, the event was postponed until this past fall when the pieces were put online. The community bid actively and the result of those donations, a check for $3,932, was presented to school representatives during the SITS meeting on Thursday.

Mt. Tallac Principal Pat Harnett, and teachers Julia Russell, Karen Nighswonger, and Jen Seely joined the Soroptimists for the morning meeting to accept the check. At this time their plan is to spend that money putting on a prom for their students. The students have never had their own school prom and this plan is something Sandy would have loved. While attending South Gate High School in Southern California she was not only Homecoming Queen but also Prom Princess in 1961.

SITS would like to thank the community for their donations through the auction. For more information on the club, visit https://sitahoesierra.org/.
