SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two-to-three feet of snow fell overnight through the South Shore, creating havoc on roads, power outages, and closures.
Every resource from all agencies involved in power restoral and road clearing is in the field, working as quickly as possible.
The City of South Lake Tahoe said their crews are working two 12-hour shifts in the eight zones the city is divided into for snow removal. There are 10 staff members on those teams. With so much snow, expect plow gates on the first run through neighborhoods to not be able to contain all snow.
Even with crews on the roads, trees are down as are power lines and vehicles are stuck or involved in accidents, creating more havoc in efforts to get everything clear. Do not have any vehicles in the street as they will block plows and you can be towed.
Transformers have popped throughout Lake Tahoe according to Liberty Utilities, along with other problems throughout their service area.
"We are doing everything we can to get power on as soon as possible, and every resource possible is out in the field right now," said Kurt Althof of Liberty Utilities.
On the Nevada side, NV Energy reports 66 customers are without power in the Lower Kingsbury area due to a tree on the line, and another 26 near Round Hill due to power lines down.
For Liberty Utilities, 12,374 of its customers in El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Plumas and Alpine counties remain without power this afternoon.
