South Lake Tahoe emergency shelter being demobilized

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City is demobilizing the shelter it had set up with the Red Cross to assist with the significant lack of power throughout the community.

Because conditions have improved with power being restored to the majority of homes, the shelter was no longer operational as of 9:00 a.m. Friday, December 17.

The shelter opened on Wednesday after a winter storm hit South Lake Tahoe with wet, heavy snow and winds. the result was a power outage to much of the community with some going without electricity for over three days.

During the two days they were open at the SLT Recreation Center, six people ended up spending the night with another estimated six people stopping by during the day to use their services which included charging stations, food and heat.
