Kudos: Bijou Library contest brings out creativity

As Bijou's new school librarian, I wanted to create something fun for the kids and created 'Disguise a Gingerbread' into your favorite book character contest. I saw a version of this online and thought it was perfect to do before the holiday break.

At the beginning of December, the contest was presented to each class during library time and told the kids to be creative and have fun if they chose to participate.

Not knowing how successful it would be and how many contestants would participate, there were only going to be three winners. But after the first week of starting the contest, I knew that number would have to change so there was a winner for each grade level thanks to Bijou's amazing PTA.

When this contest was first started I really had no idea of what to expect and thought maybe I will be lucky if I get 20 entries. But boy was I wrong. We had 112 entries! One-third of the school participated and made this contest their own.

To have so many students go home and transform a blank gingerbread template into a book character is showing how much creativity these kids hold in their minds!

I am so proud of each one of these kids. I had support from my principal, teachers, and PTA; but most of all, support from the students. And with that, I can't wait to host another creative book contest for these kids!
