South Lake Tahoe joins cities across the country for Wreaths Across American

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Members of Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) joined groups from across the country on Saturday, December 16 for a Wreaths Across America ceremony.

The ceremony, held at Happy Homestead Cemetery, began at 9:00 a.m. with a moment of silence. Ceremony participants included DAR officers and members, members of American Legion Post 795 and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, the Coast Guard, Veterans Affairs Commissioner Gary Norton, members from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Mayor Pro Tem John Friedrich, El Dorado County Supervisor Brooke Laine, Gold Star Mother Patty Smith and bagpiper Maria DeLallo.

The ceremony included the placement of nine decorated wreaths at the cemetery’s Wall of Honor representing the various branches of our nation’s armed forces, POW/MIA’s, local first responders, and Revolutionary Patriots.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember those who serve and have served in our nation’s armed forces and as first responders, to honor their service and sacrifice, and to teach future generations the importance of honoring and remembering these brave individuals.

Wreaths Across America Ceremonies are conducted on the same day and time in over 3,000 locations across the United States - at national cemeteries, state veterans’ cemeteries, local cemeteries where veterans are buried, veterans’ monuments, and on ships at sea.
