Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe starting late Christmas Day

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Services (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas above 6,000 feet starting December 25 at 10 p.m., and through noon on Friday, December 27.
There will be snow above 6000 feet with accumulations of 2 to 6 inches west of SR89 and up to 15 inches along the highest peaks. They expect up to 2 inches at lake level. Ridge winds will be gusting as high as 100 mph. Southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet on Lake Tahoe.
Another storm is possible on Sunday with dry, mild weather favored to ring in the new year.

Thursday - Snow showers likely, possibly mixed with rain, mainly after 4 pm. The snow level is 6700 feet. Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Thursday Night - Snow showers before 1 am, then rain, possibly mixed with snow showers. Low around 26. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Friday - Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all rain after 7 am. Snow level 8300 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Friday Night - A chance of rain showers before 4 am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Snow level 8300 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 30. Southwest wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Saturday - A chance of rain and snow showers before 7 am, then a chance of rain showers. Snow level 8700 feet. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Southwest wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Saturday Night - A chance of rain showers before 1 am, then rain and snow showers are likely. Snow level 8300 feet lowering to 7700 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 29. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Sunday - Rain and snow showers likely before 7 am, then rain showers between 7 am and 1 pm, then rain and snow showers after 1 pm. Snow level is 7500 feet lowering to 6900 feet in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Breezy.
Sunday Night - A chance of rain and snow showers before 7 pm, then a chance of snow showers between 7 pm and 10 pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.
