Holiday paddle boarding on Lake Tahoe

Kelsey Adams, the force behind the annual Witche's Paddle on Lake Tahoe, is always looking for ways to make every holiday fun, and maybe a little weird by being on her Stand Up Paddle (SUP) whenever she can.

This Christmas Day, it was a fun adventure for her and her "brother from another mother,' Joshua Mitchell.

Says Kelsey:

A year ago I had a random idea to paddle board on Christmas. Since I celebrate Yule and didn’t have plans for a big gift opening morning with family. I prefer adventures and quality time over gifts in general. So I thought to myself who would do this crazy thing with me and I always think of Joshua, who is in his season of ‘YES’. Basically, like Jim Carrey in Yes Man, he is always up for my crazy ideas. I asked him he said he would come. I did need to convince him a bit that we would be just fine, the water was glass and it was 44 degrees out! And then our year-long adventure came to a start!

We made an early New Year’s resolution to paddle once every month for the whole year! We spent most of those days on our lake but also enjoyed bringing our boards to San Diego for a weekend when we were both there! So technically when we went back on the lake and started in January that will be our final time for our resolution goal. But since the weather was nice again this year - a whole high of 35. And the water was again glass. We decided it must be done by Christmas!

My friends from Sacramento (Jeyzel Rossi and Christa Beans) who love to paddle, came up the night before and joined us for our Yule celebrations on the lake. It was a perfect way to take advantage of our beautiful home, share love with friends and chosen family, have gratitude for all we are given, and lot of joy this holiday season. Not to mention checking the box on our year-long silly SUP journey. Joshua and I will still be planning to paddle in January for our official year mark. Still, we enjoyed having the opportunity for it to be accomplished on a perfect winter day in our beautiful hometown.

If anyone ever wants to join us we love the company!
