Major routes between the west and Lake Tahoe remain closed Monday morning

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It keeps snowing around Lake Tahoe, the Sierra, and down to lower elevations that don't normally see snow measured in "feet." A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin until 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, heavy snow should end around 1:00 p.m. Monday with another 4-8" of snow during the day to add onto the measured "feet" of snow in the last 24 hours.

NWS Reno said the Lake Tahoe Basin has recorded 15-36" of snow in the last 24 hours, depending on the location, 5'-9'over the last six days.

Many who came to Lake Tahoe for the Christmas holiday are unable to make it home to Northern California, and vice versa for Tahoe residents trying to get back home.

If traveling over the summits to and from Lake Tahoe, there are no main arteries open at this time. US-50 over Echo Summit, I-80 between Donner Lake, Mt. Rose Highway, US 395 south from the junction of SR 201 to the junction of SR 182 in Mono County, SR89 at Emerald Bay and again between Tahoe City and Truckee, and over Luther Pass, SR88 from Hope Valley to Dew Drop.

Before using any road in the Sierra today, check for conditions at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ in California and https://nvroads.com/ for Nevada (caution, it has been up and down all morning). Do not rely on mapping apps on phones as they are still directing drivers over closed roads.
