Sales tax revenues increase in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Quarterly reports on the sales tax received by the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County (EDC) were released this week. The quarter ending September 2019 shows the County's taxable sales in the unincorporated area grew by 4.3 percent when compared to the same period in 2018. In South Lake Tahoe, taxable sales grew by 6.0 percent. County-wide including both cities within its boundaries saw a 5.1 percent increase. In comparison, the Sacramento region was up 4.5 percent.

Smoke continues to fill Lake Tahoe Basin: Chance of rain in forecast

The Feguson fire burning west of Yosemite continues to send smoke into the Lake Tahoe Basin. Since starting on July 13, the fire has consumed 22,892 acres and containment remains at 7 percent. It is burning in steep, hard to access terrain.

Several areas around Highway 140 reamin under mandatory evacuations and evacuation advisories.

2,711 personnel, including firefighters from South Lake Tahoe, are currently engaged on the fire which includes 203 engines, 39 water tenders, 16 helicopters, 58 handcrews, and 41 dozers.

Smoke from the fire is expected for at least the next two days.

Fundamental Freedoms art exhibit opening at LTCC

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College Art Department instructor Shelley Zentner brings her large-scale portraits inspired by stories of freedom and expression to the Fine Arts building’s Foyer Gallery in her exhibit, “Fundamental Freedoms.” Zentner will host an artist reception and talk on Thursday, April 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. inside the Foyer Gallery. Mayor of South Lake Tahoe Wendy David will officially open the exhibit at 6:30 p.m., followed by an artist’s talk from Zentner. Wine and canapés will be served, and all are welcome to attend.

Governor, senators and others to speak at 2017 Lake Tahoe Summit

California Senator Diane Feinstein is hosting the 21st annual Lake Tahoe Summit on Tuesday, August 22 at Vahalla in the Tallac Historic Site from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The theme for the day is "2017- A Pivotal Point for the Future of Lake Tahoe.”

The event will examine successful restoration projects and ways to address new challenges facing the lake. A key focus will be combating the effects of climate change in the Lake Tahoe basin.

Big Powerball winner purchased ticket at 7-11 in South Lake Tahoe

Check your POWERBALL tickets as you might have just won over $700,000!

A ticket sold at the 7-11 store on Pioneer Trail matched five of five numbers, except for the POWERBALL jackpot, winning $708,769 in Wednesday night's lottery drawing.

The numbers are They are: 11, 24, 31, 40, 44 and Power Number 27.

The winner hadn't contacted the store as of 11:45 a.m. Thursday according to manager Rhonda St. Onge. Her store will receive money from the Lottery as well, but St. Onge didn't know how much yet.

Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority among Nevada grant recipients

A $10,000 grant to help the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority develop its sports tourism initiative was among nearly a half-million dollars in rural tourism grants announced Tuesday. The Nevada Commission on Tourism doled out a total of $492,711 to 72 applicants, including the LTVA. Go here for the Reno Gazette-Journal story.
