2018 was an extraordinary year for Lake Tahoe, and one of the region’s most successful years in decades. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) assisted by dozens of partners approved landmark programs and projects, including a new Shoreline Plan, a comprehensive update of TRPA’s development rights system, and the U.S. 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project.
SLT City Council candidates respond to 100% Renewable Committee questions

On April 18, 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a resolution to do two things: Power the South Lake Tahoe community with electricity provided from 100 percent renewable sources by 2032; and reduce community carbon emissions from baseline by at least 80 percent by 2040. The 100% Renewable Committee was formed to help the City accomplish these tasks.
Sheriff gives 12 tips for a safe holiday

With Black Friday just days away and the excitement of the holiday season beginning to build, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office offers Twelve Tips of Holiday Safety to help residents stay focused on personal safety.
“First and foremost, stay alert,” Sheriff Chuck Allen said. “Be careful not to get so caught up in the shopping frenzy that you lose awareness of your surroundings. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood or while out shopping, report it to law enforcement or store security.”
Vail Resorts to add workforce housing in Colorado

A subsidiary of Vail Resorts announced Wednesday that it has received approvaly to convert a portion of a commercial property they own in Silverthorne, Colorado to workforce housing.
Colorado Mountain Express got a conditional use permit for their $440,000 project is the latest in Vail Resorts’ $30 million commitment to creating workforce housing opportunities in the communities in which the Company operates, including the Wintergreen development in Keystone and the recently announced plans to rezone a parcel of land in East Vail for workforce housing and open space, pending approvals.
Winners of TRPA Lake Spirit Awards announced

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) honored four people with Lake Spirit Awards Wednesday who have shown exceptional commitment to protecting Lake Tahoe and fostering a spirit of collaboration in their work and volunteer time.
This year’s award winners do everything from helping protect Lake Tahoe communities from wildfire and aquatic invasive species to promoting alternative transportation and sustainable lifestyles.
South Lake Tahoe council candidates share their views on sustainability and climate issues

The South Lake Tahoe chapter of the Citizen's Climate Lobby recently asked all ten of the candidates their views on climate change, green buildings and our carbon footprint and how they can make a change if elected.
The Citizen's Climate Lobby is an organization focused on national policies to address climate change, and the South Lake Tahoe chapter is one of 354 in the United States and abroad.
Patricia Sussman of the local chapter said just five of the candidates responded to their questions.
Uber teams up with South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition, MADD and CHP to prevent holiday drunk driving

The California Highway Patrol and Uber are joining forces to promote awareness about safe, alternative transportation options to drunk driving during the July 4 holiday weekend.
This holiday is one of the deadliest for drunk driving crashes. South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has partnered with Uber to prevent drunk driving in South Lake Tahoe.
Uber reached out to the nonprofits to make sure that Tahoe is safe, and to do so they are trying to get as many of their drivers out on the road as possible.
City receives $3 million in grants for South Lake Tahoe projects

Four new projects in South Lake Tahoe will be moving forward after the City was awarded $3 million in grants from the federal government through TRPA's Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization (TMPO).
The money will be used for the following:
$1.8 million for design and construction of the Sierra Boulevard Complete Street Project
$510,000 for construction of the Tahoe Valley Greenbelt Project
$390,000 for purchase of a Sander vehicle replacement
$200,000 for the design and engineering of the Lake Tahoe Boulevard Bike Trail
Dedication for Latest Phase of Stateline to Stateline Bike Path

The official dedication of South Lake Tahoe's 1.2-mile shared-use bike path that connects Elks Point and Round Hill Pines and provides access to Rabe Meadow with Nevada Beach and Round Hill Pines Resort will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 12 p.m.
The second segment of the Stateline-to-Stateline Bikeway, South Shore Demonstration Project adds to the existing path for a total of 2.2 miles. Meanwhile, the North Demonstration Project is expected to begin construction in 2015 and the first phase will connect Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park.
2014 Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Summit to Highlight Alternative Transportation

Pedestrian and bicycle transportation and safety will be among the topics at the 12th annual Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Summit, scheduled for March 11 and 12 at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno.
Developed to augment statewide bicycle and pedestrian resources, the summit will provide the latest information on bicycle tourism, facility planning and design, safety, enforcement and education initiatives, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, as well as Safe Routes to School program information.
Homewood lawsuit remanded back to TRPA on one issue
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 01/07/2013 - 7:28pmOn the question of whether the Homewood Mountain Ski Area Resort, a ski area on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, can be revitalized, the U.S. District Court validated all of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s environmental findings in the decision on the Sierra Club’s lawsuit challenging the project. The court remanded the case back to TRPA on one very limited issue concerning the adequacy of the economic analysis related to one of the alternatives studied, TRPA officials said.
Open Houses and hearings set for Lake Tahoe agency's Regional Plan Update

Homewood lawsuit: Court rejects plaintiffs' request for shorezone judge

Caltrans finishes three Tahoe Basin road projects
