Road Beat: Volvo XC40 - Great looks and design, and now less disconnected

But now we have the new XC40 which was rewarded recently with the European Car of the Year for 2018. So, it was with much anticipation that I awaited the arrival of the new XC40.
100th anniverary of historic military convoy heading through South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/11/2019 - 6:23pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - 100 years ago, the US Army Motor Transport Corps convoy traveled along the brand new (and now famed and historic) Lincoln Highway from coast to coast. They covered over 3,000 miles from Washington, D.C. to Oakland, California on road, then ferried over to their end in San Francisco.
Now, in 2019, the Military Vehicle Preservation Association is will follow the original Lincoln Highway route as closely as possible during the 100th Anniversary Convoy across the United States, and South Lake Tahoe is on that route.

Top cycling teams heading to South Lake Tahoe for Amgen TOC
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/07/2018 - 11:20amAll eyes will be on South Lake Tahoe this May as top women and men cyclists from around the world race through the mountains during the annual Amgen Tour of California (TOC).
The top cycling teams from the U.S., Switzerland, Germany and Belgium are now confirmed to race the 645 miles of Amgen for men, including BMC Racing Team ,Team Sky, Bora–Hansgrohe and Team Katusha–Alpecin.
Retired South Lake Tahoe K9 Duke passes
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/17/2017 - 8:48pmRetired South Lake Tahoe K9 Duke has passed away according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association. During his years of service he was responsible for the seizure of almost half a million dollars cash and countless narcotics detection arrests. He had numerous street suspect apprehensions, none of which were ever challenged in criminal or civil court according to his handler, Tony Broadfoot.
Duke had been trained by the Dutch Police in Belgium prior to coming to South Lake Tahoe in December of 2005.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Cali. - Winter may have popped into town for a few days, but fall is back as so is the 23rd annual Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson October 7-8.
This popular rite of passage features the required Oktoberfest and fall inspired brews as well as activities for the whole family from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Admission and parking are free, and festival goers are encouraged to take advantage of the free bike valet in front of the Mountain Sports Center. Bikers will receive an ice cream coupon when they valet their bikes.
Three Sacramento area friends stop potential terrorist attack in Belgium

One serves in the Air Force, another recently served in Afghanistan in the National Guard, another is studying physical therapy in California - and all three Americans are being hailed as heroes for tackling and disarming a gunman they happened to encounter on a high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris.

Sierra-at-Tahoe brings the second annual Equinox Spring Festival to the slopes beginning March 21. This free festival features live bands over three consecutive weekends, signature Sierra events for all ages and competitions on and off the mountain. Competitions including the Van's Hi-Standard Series and 9th Annual Buckle Up Big Air will be taking place on-mountain, while the 8th Annual Salsa Showdown will happen in the base area.

The start of Camp Richardson’s Snowshoe Cocktail Races, a three-part series, is set for Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.
Racers, cocktail trays in hand, navigate through obstacles, and up and down the beach. The winner is the fastest and cleanest at the finish.
