EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Since California Governor Newsom issued "Shelter in Place" orders for the state on March 19, life changed for millions of people. What was once commonplace, changed overnight.

Navigating through what is essential and what is nonessential has been a struggle for many.

The El Dorado County Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams created a statement Friday to reiterate business, activity and travel restrictions. She also said that she and county leaders may have to impose stricter limitations than imposed by the state should some current practices continue.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The proposed Lake Tahoe West Restoration Project is in the final planning stages and the three agencies involved, USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, California Tahoe Conservancy, and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, are inviting the public to provide their input. The project is a big one, covering 59,000 acres, and will provide a science-based, all-lands approach to guide restoration approaches on the West Shore over the next two decades to increase the resilience of ecosystems and human communities.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Department of Health and Human Services is reporting two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the area, both in El Dorado Hills. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 32.

The County is also reporting confirmed cases now on their daily report. There have been 16 residents who have recovered from COVID-19, to date.

According to the report, 1,125 tests have been made on residents, with 1,093 of them negative or still outstanding.

South Lake Tahoe has 9 confirmed cases of the virus.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Nicholas A. Rumble, a 30-year-old man from South Lake Tahoe, has been arrested after a year-long investigation into allegations of possession of child pornography.

Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) tracked Rumble via his ankle monitor to the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless Warm Room on Thursday, April 9 where he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to prohibit the use of any form of tobacco at all district-owned and operated facilities, including restrooms, spectator and concession areas.

Per Nevada statutes, marijuana and vaping use were already prohibited in all public spaces.

The move by the board was to "help protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and guests of Incline Village and Crystal Bay."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin until noon on Monday, April 6. At 10:00 a.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said to expect heavy snow with additional snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches, except 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph in the lower elevations and up to 90 mph over Sierra ridges.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) as relocated its Warm Room operations to the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center in order to provide a 24/7 shelter for the most vulnerable residents until at least April 30.

In addition to their expanded operations they have also made the following changes:

● Set up 8 isolation bays for people experiencing non-COVID-19 symptoms.
● Providing 22 private motel rooms for our vulnerable seniors and those experiencing complex underlying health conditions.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The precipitation of March did not do enough to boost the snowpack in the Sierra to high figures, but it did give surveyors better figures than the 47 percent of average one month ago. The manual measurement of the snowpack at Phillips Station near Sierra-at-Tahoe showed the snow depth was 43.5 inches with a snow water equivalent (SWE) of 16.5 inches. This is 66 percent of the April 1 average at that location southwest of Lake Tahoe.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. - The County of Placer Health & Human Services now reports 57 confirmed cases of coronavirus COVID-19 with two deaths from the virus.

Confirmed cases have been identified in the following areas - Auburn, Carnelian Bay, Granite Bay, Kings Beach, Lincoln, Loomis, Meadow Vista, Newcastle, Olympic Valley, Rocklin, and Roseville. However, testing is still limited.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Public Health Department has announced there are now nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26. The County is not identifying the communities where these cases are.

This brings the total number of positive cases in the State of California to 4,040. There have been 82 deaths in the state.

Of those 3,666, 886 are community-acquired cases; 2,120 were acquired through person-to-person transmission, travel (including cruise ship passengers), repatriation, or under investigation. This includes 42 health care workers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many have asked, what if our community starts getting COVID-19 cases, are we prepared? Many different groups, agencies, and the government have been working diligently and collaboratively on emergency plans to prepare.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Watercraft inspections to prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Lake Tahoe have halted until at least April 16 in response to Nevada and California Executive Orders on COVID-19, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District. Watercraft inspection stations, as well as the boat ramps at Cave Rock, Nevada and Tahoe City, California, will remain closed until it is deemed safe for personnel to return to work, they said.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Expect snow to fall in Lake Tahoe for another day as the latest in a series of small storms passes through.

For Wednesday: Snow likely before 11:00 a.m., then snow showers after 11:00 a.m. Some thunder is also possible. High near 35. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Interim Police Chief Shannon Laney sent out a letter to vacation homeowners and lodging properties on Monday, telling them to cease renting to non-exempt short-term visitors. California Governor Newsom issued a state-wide Stay at Home Order on March 19, 2020, which bans all non-essential travel, including staying in accommodations in Lake Tahoe.

STATELINE, Nev. - Rider input is needed by the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) in order to best determine their bus routes during the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19.

TTD is asking riders to contact them with what routes and runs are most important. In the meantime, they have implemented safety measures for both riders and employees to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A man from El Dorado County who traveled to the State of Washington has a confirmed case of COVID-19. It is believed he was exposed while there and was tested in Placer County.

It is unknown why he took the test in another county.

His symptoms appeared when got back from Washington and immediately isolated himself and did all of the recommended steps.

“His symptoms were mild, he self-isolated when he became symptomatic as health officials have been suggesting, and he has fully recovered,” said El Dorado County Public Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has this morning declared a local emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is taking extra precautions to keep the public and our employees safe during this time.

The local emergency proclamation means we can provide or receive mutual aid from other jurisdictions and helps us secure resources, funding and staffing.
