PLACER COUNTY, Calif. - The County of Placer Health & Human Services now reports 57 confirmed cases of coronavirus COVID-19 with two deaths from the virus.
Confirmed cases have been identified in the following areas - Auburn, Carnelian Bay, Granite Bay, Kings Beach, Lincoln, Loomis, Meadow Vista, Newcastle, Olympic Valley, Rocklin, and Roseville. However, testing is still limited.
County officials are reminding the public that the absence of a confirmed case in any specific geographic area does not mean that specific area does not have virus transmission — it just means a case has not yet been identified. Every person, regardless of where they live, is at risk of being exposed to the novel coronavirus.
Of the 57, 42 percent are between the ages of 18-49; and the likely exposure to traveling was 39 percent of the cases, 12 percent were providing health care, 11 percent was contact with a known case and 14 percent were community-acquired. There are still a number of cases that are still under investigation as to the point of contact.
The two Placer County residents who died from COVID-10 were both reported to be elderly and with underlying health conditions. The first person was the first California resident to die and had been on a Princess cruise ship traveling from San Francisco to Mexico February 11-21. The patient was in isolation at Kaiser Permanente Roseville. The second person was a resident of South Placer County.
