New deputy sworn in for Douglas County Sheriff's Office
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/19/2017 - 8:41pmMINDEN, Nevada – Spencer McLaughlin has been sworn in as a new deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Surrounded by family and friends, McLaughlin joined the department and started a new career in civilian law enforcement. Deputy McLaughlin was a military police officer for five years, spending most of his time on the base SWAT team in Japan and at Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, California.
Western Nevada College announces Dean's List honorees

Those chosen to WNC’s Dean’s List must complete at least 12 academic units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Douglas County teen attends Marine Corps youth program
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/18/2016 - 6:58amA Douglas County teenager has returned from Southern California where he took part in the Marine Corps Devil Pups Youth Program at Camp Pendleton.
Erik Jacobson, 16, was one of 600 other recruits who went through the program to experience ten days of teamwork, discipline and education. It is a demanding physical and academic good citizenship program for youth.
Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at Lake Tahoe Airport reopens with new owners
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/21/2016 - 10:43pmViews are a given when in South Lake Tahoe, but being able to combine dining, drinking with mountains, blue sky and airplanes is a treat that the new Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at the Lake Tahoe Airport is hoping to highlight.
"Getting people out to the airport is a goal," said new co-owner Tina Shannon. "The beauty and the sunsets out here are amazing."
Tina, who along with husband Mike have reopened the Flight Deck, which shares the airport with the government center for South Lake Tahoe. They opened on June 22 and celebrated a grand opening on Wednesday.
Marine aircraft training in South Lake Tahoe postponed
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/21/2015 - 3:15pmThe Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training and Open House for the U.S. Marine Corps Squadron 303 has been postponed due to being deployed on a mission. A future date has not been scheduled at this time.
The USMS had previously been scheduled to be in South Lake Tahoe on a thirteen day training mission July 27 – August 8.
Skies of South Lake Tahoe to be used for Marine training
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 9:14pmFuture pilots for the U.S. Marine Corps Cobra and Huey helicopter fleets will get their training in skies above South Lake Tahoe during a 13-day training mission between July 27 and August 8.
South Lake Tahoe is the optimal training location for the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 out of Camp Pendleton, CA. The high altitude will better prepare the Marines for future missions, such as the recent humanitarian relief efforts in the mountains of Nepal.
