Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at Lake Tahoe Airport reopens with new owners

Views are a given when in South Lake Tahoe, but being able to combine dining, drinking with mountains, blue sky and airplanes is a treat that the new Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at the Lake Tahoe Airport is hoping to highlight.

"Getting people out to the airport is a goal," said new co-owner Tina Shannon. "The beauty and the sunsets out here are amazing."

Tina, who along with husband Mike have reopened the Flight Deck, which shares the airport with the government center for South Lake Tahoe. They opened on June 22 and celebrated a grand opening on Wednesday.

Not only did many come out to enjoy the new fare at the restaurant, there were many watching the celebrities arrive in their jets for the American Century Championship being held over at Edgewood Tahoe this week. NBA star Charles Barkley even stopped by with his traditional "buy a round for the bar" routine.

Tina, who is a Management Analyst for the City of South Lake Tahoe, and Mike, who is a plumber, have been on the South Shore since 1990. The pair were both in the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton in Southern California prior to heading to the Sierra.

They have upgraded the restaurant with new furniture and televisions which will be showing the NFL Sunday Ticket this fall. Next up for upgrade is the outside patio deck.

Flight Deck serves breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 9:00 a.m. and they open the rest of the week at 11:00 a.m. The Shannons will keep the place open most of the time until 10:00 p.m.

So far, the customer favorite dishes have been the Ruby, their burgers and nachos. For breakfast, guests will have to try Ingrid's Swedish Pancakes, Tina's mom's recipe. Her parents PerHans and Ingrid are both from Sweden, so this dish is the real deal.

"If you don't come out here you won't see cool planes and military planes," said Tina.
