Opinion: Saddened by Laine's stunningly secretive display, hope we can find a path back
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/16/2018 - 12:00pmThe last few months have been some of the most difficult for our City Council, for our City and for our community. Similar to the national conversation, with immediate access to social media in many forms, controversial opinion pieces go immediately out to the public, even before the accused have an opportunity to hear the allegations. Soon after, public comment and “opinion” on the opinion begins with little interest in whether there is truth.

Monthly report to the community from the Chief of Police
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/03/2015 - 12:03amAll too often, we hear from people who have been victimized by some sort of scam. Before the internet existed these “confidence scams” were frequently perpetuated through direct contact and bolstered by a victim who is too trusting. With the internet and other technology, criminals have shifted their efforts so as to accomplish their rip-off over long distances and without direct contact. Unfortunately, local law enforcement has limited capacity to track and ultimately prosecute such crimes.

Submitted by Li Terrell on Tue, 10/11/2011 - 4:46pmAs an early snowstorm descended on South Lake Tahoe the first week of October, the continuing winter of economic discontent looks bleak for the city’s budget woes and employees facing layoff. While negotiations between the bargaining units and the city continue to be held, there is a hint of an impasse — while the city functions on only an interim budget until the end of the month.
