Bingo, Champions Plaza and budget all on South Lake Tahoe City Council agenda

Guidelines for the operation of Bingo games in South Lake Tahoe are to be voted on during the City Council meeting on September 2. In an effort to clean up the city's code, City Attorney Tom Watson has been evaluating and updating all rules in the books, and the Bingo rules are part of this change.

If passed, groups that want to have a Bingo game in city limits may only do so in buildings they own or lease, people working the event may not be paid, and they must be senior citizens' organizations, mobile home park associations and organizations exempted from the payment of bank and corporation tax by Sections 23701a, 23701b, 23701d, 23701e, 23701f, 23701g and 237011 of the Revenue and Taxation Code.

The Chief of Police would be responsible for collecting license fees.

Also on the agenda Tuesday is a vote on the Champions Plaza on the newly revamped Harrison Avenue near Lakeview Commons. At the March 4, 2014 City Council meeting, Council approved the concept of a "Champions Plaza" in which our local athletes who have achieved national and world titles can be recognized and honored for their successes in their respective sports. It was also proposed that public art would be a great addition to the Champions Plaza. The proposed budget is $60,000.

Council will also vote on the creation of a new part time position, Deputy Development Services Director.

Measure F, which is the Lake Tahoe Community College's bond measure, would get up to $55,000 from council if passed.

These items and more will be on the agenda at the City Council meeting on September 2, starting at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at the Airport.
