Lake Tahoe Community College One Step Closer to Offering 4 Year Degrees

The likelihood of four-year degrees coming to Lake Tahoe Community College just got a major boost. A bill authorizing California’s Community College System to launch a limited baccalaureate degree pilot program was just approved by the State Assembly Committee on Higher Education. Senate Bill 850 (SB 850) allows 15 California community colleges to offer one 4-year degree as early as January 1, 2015, and starting no later than the 2017-18 academic year. The bill already passed through the state Senate back in May by a 34-0 vote.

LTCC and LTUSD Hold Joint Board Meeting

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education and Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees will hold a joint meeting on Tuesday, February 11 in the LTCC Board Room at 5 p.m.

During the joint portion of the meeting the groups will have three topics of discussion: Trustee boundaries during this fall's elections, seamless pathway from preschool to graduate school, and facilities and technology partnerships.

Soccer Coaches Hired for Lake Tahoe Community College

Benjamin Wade and Christian DeLeon were hired as the new LTCC soccer coaches at Tuesday night's Lake Tahoe Community College Board meeting. Both coaches will head up the newly established intercollegiate soccer program at the college. Wade will be the men's head coach and DeLeon the women's.

Presentation by the League to Save Lake Tahoe about Pipe Keepers

The League to Save Lake Tahoe will be giving a presentation on the evenings of March 13-14 about Pipe Keepers, a new volunteer monitoring program.

Pipe Keepers is a volunteer based monitoring program that examines turbidity (clarity) of water that enters Lake Tahoe and its tributaries through storm drains.

Created in response to a resident’s concerns about a neighborhood storm pipe discharging dirty looking water directly into Lake Tahoe, Pipe Keepers began in the Fall of 2012 with trained local volunteers sampling outflow from storm drain pipes throughout the Tahoe Basin.
