Summer fire restrictions around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/22/2020 - 4:39pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Fire season is upon us and many restrictions are now in effect where outdoor burning, campfires, and fire pits are concerned. 2020 started out with the driest February on record since the 1850s, and there is an increased fire danger posed by dead grass and hotter, drier conditions in the region.
It is important to understand that with all of the different fire areas around Lake Tahoe, there are different rules.
City to start annual fire inspections of local businesses
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/11/2016 - 6:53pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe sent out emails to local businesses this week, advising them it is time for their required annual life and safety inspections of all existing commercial buildings which, among others, are used to sell merchandise, public assembly, hotels and motels.
Travis Taylor, the City's Fire Inspector, has begun the drop-in inspections which can take place Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Fire destroys South Lake Tahoe home
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/22/2016 - 11:46amA fire destroyed a home in the Bijou neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe on Thursday night, killing three dogs and leaving the two residents without a home which was declared a complete loss.
At 8:22 p.m. April 21, 2016, engines from all area agencies responded to the two-story cabin at 3801 Aspen Avenue after receiving a 911 call of flames coming from inside. South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Douglas and Lake Valley Fire Departments were all called to the scene. They found the home engulfed and items from the interior exploding.

Douglas County homeowners have an opportunity to compost their residential yard waste early this fire season when TDFPD hosts a kickoff event for Compost Your Combustibles with coffee and donuts on Saturday, May 23 at 9am. The free annual recycling program which historically has started on Memorial Day Weekend is now open at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Boulder Lodge Parking Lot.

Free Drop Off of Combustibles For Nevada Residents
Clear out the combustibles from your yard and drop them off for free at the kickoff event being held for “Compost Your Combustibles 2014” at
Heavenly Boulder parking lot this Saturday, May 24th in recognition of Wildfire Awareness Month.” Drop off days will be held through the first Saturday in August.
Rake and remove pine needles and yard combustible waste to prepare your home in the case of wildfire.
