Small fires break out near Vikingsholm, Upper Echo Lakes area
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 4:21pmFire crews responded to two fires this afternoon, one near the boat ramp at Vikingsholm and the other in the Upper Echo Lakes area. Both fires were reportedly small and didn't pose immediate hazard.
A Lake Valley Fire Protection District captain said that crews were sent to the Vikingsholm fire at around 3 this afternoon after a power line went down. The status of the fire was it was about a 10 foot by 10 foot fire and was reportedly knocked down.
Forest Service temporarily reduces Incline Village office hours
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 01/05/2012 - 10:45amNew hours are in the mix, at least temporarily, for the Incline Village office of the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Beginning Jan. 11, the office at 855 Alder Ave., will be open Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The change is a reduction of about two hours each day and is only temporary, said Lisa Herron, Forest Service spokeswoman. It is not a result of funding cuts but changes to staffing.
