Relationship Violence: Not Just an Adult Problem
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/10/2015 - 10:14pmWhen most of us hear the terms “domestic violence” or “relationship violence,” our minds immediately focus on adult relationships and marriages. The terms can often build the mental image of extreme attacks from one adult partner, stereotypically male, to another, a woman as the victim, but rarely do we consider that violence occurring between teens. Sometimes we may even think that teen relationships aren’t as serious as adult relationships, and therefore the circumstances that lead to violence don’t exist. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

With seven to ten domestic violence cases reported each week on the South Shore, the universal issue of violence against women isn't just a big city problem.

The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day of 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
