'Breakfast for Dinner' fundraiser for Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation is holding their first "Breakfast For Dinner" on Tuesday, December 4 at Ernie's in South Lake Tahoe from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come in your pajamas and enjoy while raising money for local schools and students.
"Dinner" includes Ernie's famous French toast with bacon or sausage and a beverage. A full order is $10 and a half order is just $5. There will also be hot chocolate and a mimosa bar available for an additional donation, so be sure to bring cash.

We survived the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and resorts that remain open this week and for the season continue to make snow and spin lifts. Kirkwood has scheduled Chair #6 – Cornice Express to offer top to bottom skiing & riding. Mammoth Mtn. & Mt Rose also open top to bottom. More snow predicted to come through with a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday.

Karl James Hildinger ~ 5/30/31 - 11/11/18
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/22/2018 - 2:42pmKarl James Hildinger was born in Danville, California on May 30, 1931. Jim passed away at home, surrounded by family, in South Lake Tahoe on November 11, 2018.
Three weeks after he was born, he was carried into Angora Lakes Resort in a Washoe papoose basket. He was a staunch environmentalist and spent his lifetime protecting and preserving Angora and the greater Lake Tahoe Basin. The Angora Lakes Resort remains in the family.

The longtime South Lake Tahoe resident died Nov. 8, 2018, at home. He was 87.
Beyond a large family and rich trove of friends, Ed leaves behind a legacy as an artist. He was a quiet man who for years let his voice be heard through his work.
Born in Palo Alto on Oct. 17, 1931, to Selma Alquist and John Laine, Ed grew up in the Bay Area, having graduated from Sequoia Union High School in 1950. He attended San Jose State College, Cal Arts and the University of Oregon. In Oregon he majored in art.

SR89 to close for one day around Emerald Bay
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/09/2018 - 8:43amLAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Caltrans is alerting the public that State Highway 89 will be closed at Emerald Bay on Wednesday, November 14 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This closure will allow for a crane to work in the area placing downed trees on the slope for erosion control. Dead or dying trees will be cut down from the area around the project site on Tuesday, November 13 and stacked onsite for placement on the hillside the next day.
Motorists from the north seeking to access the west or south shores of Lake Tahoe will need to detour via Highways 28 and 50 during the full closure.

The Winterfest concert with the Oakland Jazz Choir will be on November 17 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will feature holiday music and other popular selections.

As announced in August, TTD announced an increase of services to improve access to neighborhoods including Meyers, more frequent services on busy routes and reduction of routes not meeting required performance measures.

The 49-year-old Rush gave his notice to the Emerald Isle, NC town commissioners, resigning the position he'd held for 17 years in the small oceanside resort community.

Rush, 49, who has been Emerald Isle, N.C. town manager since 2001, was one of five candidate finalists interviewed for the job after the City Council hired a recruiting firm on April 17, 2018. Dirk Brazil, the interim SLT city manager, said the process has been a fair one with extensive work between the City's human resources department and the recruiter. Rush was a unanimous choice by the City Council.

The 100% Renewable Committee was formed to help the City accomplish these tasks.

Over 20 events will take place around Lake Tahoe during the three days of fun and festivities this year, the 23rd year of the Marathon. Over 2,500 family members and friends are also expected to travel to the lake to watch and enjoy the town.

Lake Tahoe Water Trail - "72 miles of pure liquid fun"

The Lake Tahoe Water Trail has been in place since 2003 and is a designated water route along the 72-mile shoreline that connects public launch/landing sites to help paddlers have a safe, responsible, and fun recreation experience while practicing good stewardship that protects the watershed.
The connect users to the trail, a newly designed website has been launched with paddle routes listed that match abilities and interests, navigation tools, and water safety tips.

California’s first maritime heritage underwater trail opens at Emerald Bay

Column: Decisions nearing for Shoreline Plan and Development Rights
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/20/2018 - 5:18pmThis September and October, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board will move forward with hearings and final milestone decisions on two significant initiatives: A new Shoreline Plan and an overhaul of the agency’s transferable development rights system.
TRPA will hold hearings for both these initiatives at the Governing Board meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26, and could hold final votes on them as early as Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Quick response keeps Echo Summit fire contained to small area
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/20/2018 - 8:41amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An illegal and abandoned campfire near the Pacific Crest Trail ignited a fire on Wednesday evening.
Crews from USFS, Lake Valley Fire and Calfire were called to the 5:20 p.m. fire on September 19. They staged at the Echo Summit Caltrans maintenance yard on Highway 50, and when determined to be on Forest Service land, the Engine 42 crew from USFS hiked into the fire location and the others were on call in case needed.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will host a public tour to announce the proposed action and public comment period for the Meeks Bay Restoration Project on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018. The public tour will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Meeks Bay Resort, 7941 Emerald Bay Road (Highway 89), Meeks Bay, CA 96142. The 45-day comment period begins with the publication of the Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement in the Federal Register on Tuesday, Sep. 11, 2018. Comments are most helpful if received by Friday, Oct. 26, 2018.

September 23, 2018 - 3:00pm Join the Tahoe Area Sierra Club at Aspen Hollow in South Lake Tahoe for an Autumn Garden Party and Fundraiser on September 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The event will include food, a raffle and several speakers.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $20 and includees a wide array of appetizers, two drink tickets and five raffle tickets.
Aspen Hollow is located at 541 Emerald Bay Rd.

13:20 - Mount Rose Rd at Jobs Peak Dr - Gas leak (natural gas or LPG)
17:06 - 3300 block of Needle Peak Rd - EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury
