It's Marathon Week in Lake Tahoe; Expect road closure October 14

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual Lake Tahoe Marathon is October 12-14, 2018 with 1,800 athletes headed to town for the race. Over 20 events will take place around Lake Tahoe during the three days of fun and festivities this year, the 23rd year of the Marathon. Over 2,500 family members and friends are also expected to travel to the lake to watch and enjoy the town.
There will be one road closure to take note of on the South Shore Sunday, October 14: State Route 89 will be closed to northbound traffice from 7:45 a.m. to about noon near Spring Creek Road. For a full list of traffic alerts, see below.
All ages and abiities will be participating in the marathon, fun runs, walks, parties and an expo.
Schedule of events:
Thursday, October 11
5pm - Historic Fun Run to Nevada Beach - Tour with Neal Chappell, our old pro who has finished in the top 25 in all of our 10K's. He will tour part of the 10K course and Indian historical sites. Party at McP's afterwards.
3-6pm - Pick up The Trifecta & Carnelian Bay Half & Cal Neva Marathon Material at McP's Taphouse Grill, 4125 Lake Tahoe Blvd, SLT, CA. Pick up Friday morning's race materals at McP's Taphouse grill across the street from Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.
4-6pm - Pick up The Triple & Cal Neva Marathon Material at McP's. Pick up Friday's morning's race materials at McP's Taphouse Grill (across the street from Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel) one hour after the rush of Trifecta runners.
5pm & 6pm - Triple & Trifecta Orientation Meeting - Ring Master and staff will be present to talk about buses and the courses over the next 3 days. Introducation of famous people and meet your new life long running friends.
9pm - First leg of Double, Triple or Quadzilla Dare - Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel
Friday, October 12
4:50 AM - Cal Neva Marathon Shuttle Bus to Sand Harbor - 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd, SLT, CA (next to Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel).
6:00 AM - Cal Neva Marathon - Sand Harbor, NV to Meadow Road, Homewood, CA All marathoners start at 6:00 am.and need to wear head lamp and flashers that will be collected at the first aid station and returned at the finish line. Sunrise is 7:08 AM
6:45 AM - Carnelian Bay Half Marathon Shuttle Bus - 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd, SLT, CA (next to Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel).
8:30 AM - Carnelian Bay Half Marathon - Carnelian Bay to Meadow Road, Homewood. Start from Waterman's Landing.
5pm - Historic Fun Run to Nevada Beach - Tour with Neal Chappell, who will show you the 10K course and ancient Indian historical sites. Party at Lake Tahoe AleWorx afterwards.
4-7pm - Friday's party for Friday racer's is at the Lake Tahoe AleWorX at Stateline - New Event & location: Party for Friday's runners to check results, socialize, and eat great pizza and drink some great craft beer. Saturday's athletes can pick up their race bibs for Saturday's Events and join the party. The Stateline Lake Tahoe AleWorX, 31 US Hwy 50, NV. located between Harrahs and MontBleu. Free parking in back. Drive into Harrah's off H50 by the parking structure and make a quick left into the back secret parking lot. Or walking from your hotel would be best. A block east into NV from the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. If your running in Lakeside Marathon or the Nevada Half you can pick up your race bib here. Note all shirts and bags will be passed out together ONLY at the Saturday Expo at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.
Saturday, October 13
6:00 AM - Lakeside Marathon - Lakeside Beach, So Lake Tahoe, CA to Incline Village, NV. All runners start at 6:00 am and need to wear head lamp and flashers. They will be collected at the first aid station and returned at the finish line. Sunrise is 7:08 AM. No Shuttle Bus. Walk to the start.
7:15 am - Nevada Half Marathon shuttle bus to Spooner Summit start area - 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd, SLT, CA (next to Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel).
8:30 AM - Nevada Half Marathon - All down hill-Spooner Summit to Incline Village
9am-7pm - Tahoe Sport & Fitness Expo Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd, So Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 is next to Harrahs Casino. Pick up your race number and two t-shirts here. The first 1000 to have registered for the Half, 16.4 miler, Full, and Ultra can also pick up your Firecracker Red Travel Duffel Bag. Register for an event and browse for new running gear or supplies, or shop your next race with other races who will be here to talk to you.
4pm - The 72 Mile Midnight Express Ultra Orientation Meeting - Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel
9 PM - The Saturday Night Midnight Express 72 Mile Ultra - Start on Stateline Ave in front of Harvey's corner entrance. Directly across from Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel and McP's Taphouse Grill. Finish at Lakeside Beach Sunday morning. Run 72 miles counter clockwise around all of Lake Tahoe.
Sunday-Funday, October 14
Shuttle Buses - All buses leave from the South Tahoe Transportation Center at 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd. next to Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. The STTC is tucked behind the adjacent shopping center.Its the first driveway west of the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel
8 to 10:30am - Optimist Fall Breakfast - All you can eat eggs, sausage, and pancakes for $5!! At the finish Line at Lakeside Beach. The Lake Tahoe Optimist Club is also putting on a Free Kids Pumpkin Run at 10am for kids aged 1 to 10 at the same spot. Park at Hard Rock and walk down.
7:45 am - Hwy. 89 Closes near Spring Creek Road to northbound traffic and reopens about noon.
8AM - Early Start Marathon for Walkers - For walkers and anyone needing extra time to finish by 3PM. Early Start walkers my check in and start before 8AM. Early starters do not qualify for age division awards, but do get a finishers medal. One bus only leaves at 6 AM
8:30am - Lake Tahoe Marathon & 4-Person Marathon Relay - Runners start at 8:30 AM at Meadow Rd. & H89, south of Homewood and finish at Lakeside Beach below the casinos. Last bus departs at 6:45AM
8:30am - The Edgewood Tahoe 10K - Out and back looped course into NV from Lakeside Beach. Run along the famous lakeside fairways of Edgewood Golf Course during the first 2 miles and then along the trails of Kahle Meadow.
8:30am - The Super Hero 5K Pumpkin Run - A looped course into and around famous Edgwood Golf Course. Runners in costume get a 1 minute head start. Run for fun and your pumpkin medal. Race starts at The Landings driveway. Best costume gets a dinner for two at Jimmy's at the Landings.
9 am - 16.4-Miler - Top of Bliss State Park to Lakeside Beach. Skips the Hill from Hell. Only bus leaves at 7:45 am
10am - Lake Tahoe AleWorx Beer Garden opens - Free beer for runners with race bib. $1 for guests and family.
10am - Optimist Free Kids Super Hero RePumpkin Runs - Kids races of various distances depending on age. Ages 1-10. At the Marathon Finish line at Lakeside Beach.
10am - 10K awards - Jump on the podium at waters edge on Lakeside Beach
10:30am - Emerald Bay Half Marathon - Starts at Emerald Bay. Sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, home of our Expo. No early start for this race. 5 hour time limit. Last bus leaves at 9:15am.
1PM - Half Marathon awards - Climb the podium at waters edge on Lakeside Beach
1:30pm - Marathon awards - Get help in mounting the podium at Lakeside Beach
When Finished - Ultra, Triple, Trifecta awards - Be assisted up the podium at Lakeside Beach for photo's
4pm - Timing ends for all events - The bears get to eat anyone finishing after 4PM, except for the Ultras. (They are too tough to eat)

For Sunday -
Coming from Tahoe City, SR 89 will be open but with a detour at McKinney Dr. south of Homewood from 7:30AM to 8:35AM for the start of the Lake Tahoe Marathon.
South bound traffic coming from Tahoe City will be stopped at Inspiration Point from 10AM to 10:30AM for the start of the Emerald Bay Half Marathon.
Traffic will be slow with the marathon and generally from people enjoying the fall colors of the Taylor Creek area.
On Sunday, runners will be running through Tahoe Keys and onto the bike trails and sidewalks through South Lake Tahoe and will end at Lakeside Beach.
Also, on Friday, be mindful of runners on the shoulder of the lake side of the road between Sand Harbor and Homewood.
Saturday, be mindful of runners on the shoulder of the road between Lakeside Beach, South Lake Tahoe, and Incline Village. They will be running against traffic on the lake side of the road.
Saturday night there will be a small number of runners starting about 9PM and running the 72 miles around Lake Tahoe starting from Stateline, NV.
