National Environmental Education Foundation awards grant to Tahoe Fund
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 02/21/2013 - 11:04amThe Tahoe Fund, an environmental non-profit raising funds for environmental improvement projects in the Tahoe Basin, today announced it has received an “Every Day Capacity Building Grant” from the National Environmental Education Foundation.
The grant program is made possible through the generous support of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. This grant will provide resources to help the Tahoe Fund expand its online fundraising capacity and donor management capabilities. The Tahoe Fund was one of 29 grantees selected from a competitive pool of 160 applicants. The grant is for $5,000.

Barton Memorial Hospital 'Officially' cuts ribbon after 50 years in South Lake Tahoe

The event included a speech by the great-grandchild of Bill Barton, the namesake of the hospital and current member of Barton Health’s Board of Directors, Kirk Ledbetter.

In cooperation with the Himmel Haus, Blue Angel Café, and Rainbow Mountain, the Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the first annual South Tahoe Santa Run to benefit Christmas Cheer and the HSSF Scholarship Fund on Thursday, Dec. 20th, regardless of weather.
“Running in Santa costumes for charity is a fun, win-win situation to me!” said Zakariah Latzka, Himmel Haus owner. “We are excited to be involved in helping the community that has so graciously embraced us and our business.”
Reservations begin Dec. 17 for Winter Trek Express at Lake Tahoe

Teachers may reserve a spot by calling the Forest Service front desk at (530) 543-2694, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Winter Trek Express is a 5th-grade environmental education program that takes place at Heavenly Mountain Resort via the gondola. Forest Service rangers lead the class through the wilderness to learn snowshoe skills and discover winter adapting animals.
Memorial scholarship established for former LTCC student Lyra B. Fisher

One of Lee’s students, Lyra B. Fisher, was tragically murdered this summer, the apparent victim of domestic violence. Festival of Trees and Lights begins Thursday

Throughout the last three-years, Barton Foundation has dedicated funds raised from The Festival to Barton Health’s Community Clinic expansion and renovation. A Level III trauma center, located in Barton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department (E.D.), is this year’s fundraising initiative.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 24th Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on Saturday Nov. 17.
Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides skiing and snowboarding programs and events for regional youth and local middle school and high school students. The swap runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
