Dugard was just 11-years-old when convicted sex offender Philip Garrido kidnapped her as she made her way up the street from her home to her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe.

The only clues came from the sole eye witness to the kidnapping, Carl Probyn – Jaycee’s step father, who provided information on the car and one of the occupants.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Dugard's lawsuit alleging federal parole officials should have revoked her abductor's parole well before he kidnapped her, but failed to do their jobs.

They remember what they were doing when they heard, and the national focus the community got in the following days. The community of South Lake Tahoe rejoiced along with the world 18 years later on August 26, 2009 when she was found and her kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy Garrido were arrested.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports how Probyn, 53, recounted her ordeal during the Sonoma County Crime Victim’s Rights Week event, telling of the separation from Dugard, who at age 11 was kidnapped by Phillip and Nancy Garrido from a South Lake Tahoe street on June 10, 1991.
