Vail wins national award for environmental excellence
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/11/2019 - 10:51pmVail Resorts was awarded the 2019 Golden Eagle Award for Environmental Excellence by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) for its bold environmental sustainability program, Commitment to Zero. The annual Golden Eagle Awards, which were presented at the NSAA National Convention in San Diego last week, are the highest honors given for environmental performance in the ski industry.
Two large fires continue to burn in Northern Nevada
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/04/2017 - 1:30pmTwo large wildfires that started Monday east of Reno continue to burn.
The Truckee Fire near Wadsworth is now between 18,000 and 20,000 acres and is 15 percent contained. Over 200 firefighters and multiple agencies are working to put out the fire. This fire is now covering portions of Washoe and Churchill counties.
People are asked to stay out of the area and keep traffic clear along Interstate 80.
Fire closes I-80 in Sparks
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 6:33pmInterstate 80 is closed in both directions from Patrick to Wadsworth due to wild fires and poor visibility according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Westbound traffic is being diverted at Derby Dam and eastbound traffic is being diverted at Mustang.
The Earthstone Fire started at 1:30 p.m. Monday and it is now at 3,000 acres according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks is closed while crews work on the brush fire near Belmar/Earthstone in Sparks.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care releases Golden Eagle over Red Lake
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/25/2016 - 5:26pmThere were tears, smiles and applause as a Golden Eagle was released Sunday over Red Lake after being rehabilitated by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for the past month.
"Loyalton" was found by a Fish and Wildlife warden near the town of Loyalton with no real injuries, but was emaciated. LTWC volunteers call Loyalton a "he" but they don't really know as they don't test the sex on their eagles.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Update: Bobcats, 'Chips' plus a Golden Eagle release on Sunday
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 09/20/2012 - 8:14pmAs ‘some’ of you may be aware, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care now has a total of FIVE (5) bobcats in house. We have had a total of six this year, which is the most we have EVER had, but the one we got in about a month ago, was just with us for about 3 days, after being hit by a car in the Woodfords, Calif., area. We got ‘her’ back so she could - hopefully – take care of her babies.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Center releases Golden Eagle

August 26, 2012 (All day) Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care released its first Golden Eagle of the season on Sunday at Carson Pass. Release is the final process of the three areas of wildlife rehabilitation.
For the next three weeks, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care's Eagle Team will be exercising a minimum of three eagles, preparing them for release back to the wild.
